Excimer Laser

An ultraviolet laser used in refractive surgery to remove corneal tissue. The
excimer laser produces an ultraviolet beam of light which is emitted in pulses.
Each pulse removes 1/4000 millimeter of tissue from the surface of the cornea.
It would take about 200 pulses from an excimer laser just to cut a human hair
in half. The excimer laser has been used in industry since 1971 and has been
used in ophthalmic surgery since 1983.
